Betty Drum Hefner, went home to be with the Lord at Catawba Regional Hospice on December 6, 2013. She was an active member of St. Stephens ELCA Lutheran Church, and was happily married to Wade E. Hefner for 64 years.

Born June 13, 1929 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Paul Drum and Rosa Lee Hollar Drum. Betty served as a volunteer at Frye Regional Hospital for over 30 years where she loved working with the Tuesday group. She also enjoyed working as a sales clerk at Springs Road Pharmacy. Her grandsons were her pride and joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Joann Starr, Dorothy Deal, Pauline Eckard and Catherine Little and a brother, Howard Drum.

She leaves behind a loving husband, Wade E Hefner; daughter, Susan Neal and husband Robert; son, Douglas Hefner and wife Tami; two grandsons, Ben and Logan Hefner; sisters, Sue Clay of Hildebran, Julie Kanipe of Conover, Juanita Deitz of Hickory; and brother, Jack Drum of Connelly Springs.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 9, 2013 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, ELCA with Rev. Richard Hites and Rev Jeff Lindsay officiating. A private burial will precede the service in the church cemetery.
