CLAREMONT - Virginia Catherine Drum Little, 86, of U.S. 70, Claremont, arrived at her heavenly home Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, departing from Valley Nursing Center. Born March 13, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Reuben Paul and Rosa Lee Holler Drum. Mrs. Little retired in 1983 with 25 years service in the cafeteria at Claremont Elementary School. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Everette Little; and a son, Donald Ray Little; a brother, Howard Drum; and sisters, Joann Starr, Pauline Eckard and Dorothy Deal. Mrs. Little is survived by two sons and five daughters, Steve Little of Claremont, Bill Little and wife, Karen, of Las Vegas, Nev., Elaine Sweezy and friend, Curt Cauthen, of Maiden, Carolyn Saferight and husband, "Bud," of Eatonton, Ga., Pat Heavner and husband, Randy, and Miranda "Randi" Pope and husband, Melvin, of Catawba, and Brenda Sloan and husband, Hayden, of Crystal River, Fla. She has 11 grandchildren, Tad Saferight, Stacey Sweezy Montelongo, Tiger Sweezy, Tammy Heavner Mercereau, Temple Heavner, Kelly Pope, Katie Pope, Paula Pope Mundy, Jamie Pope, Amy Little and Barbie Little Hiscocks; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four sisters, Juanita Deitz, Betty Hefner, Julie Kanipe and Sue Clay; and a brother, Jack Drum. A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at Bethel Lutheran Church, with the Revs. Craig Schultz and Edward Meyer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2008, at Drum Funeral Home in Conover. Memorials may be made to Bethel Lutheran Church, 5759 Bolick Road, Claremont, N.C. 28610 or Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, N.C. 28625.
