Jack Leroy Drum, 79, of Connelly Springs, passed away Tuesday July 1, 2014 at Burke Hospice and Palliative Care following a period of declining health. Mr. Drum was born on March 17, 1935 in Duplin County to the late Reuben Paul Drum and Rosa Lee Hollar Drum. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired engineer with Centel Telephone Company, a former member of the Burke County Board of Education, and was formerly on the Board of Trustees at Western Piedmont Community College and was charter member of the East Burke Athletic Foundation. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Howard R. Drum, Catherine Little, Pauline Eckard, Dot Deal, Betty Hefner and Joann Starr. Survivors include his wife, ; his son; his daughter, ; four grandchildren, ; four great-grandchildren; and three surviving sisters. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday July 6, 2014 in the Chapel of Heritage Funeral Service, officiating Rev. Mike Skinner. The family will receive friends Sunday following the service at Heritage Funeral Service in Valdese.
