Mrs. E.L. Kemp Obituary

Mrs. E.L. {Julia A.} Kemp, 86, Paradise, California, formerly of Vandalia, died at approximately 10 p.m. August 1 in a Paradise nursing home where she had resided for the past four years. Memorial services were held Monday in California. Mrs. Kemp is to be brought to Vandalia for services and burial, but the time of arrival here is undetermined. Waters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. The daughter of Jefferson Davis and Eugenia Wilson Holder, she was born October 23, 1894 in Madison, MO. and attended school there., She moved with her family to Vandalia in 1919 and resided here most of her life. Her marriage to E.L. Kemp took place Nov. 11, 1918, and he was self-employed, operating a dairy in Vandalia. Mrs. Kemp was employed 20 years at El Walker Garment Company. She has been a church member almost all of her life. Surviving are two sons, John M. Kemp, Waterloo, Iowa, Eugene L. Kemp, Buffalo, Iowa, one daughter, Mrs. Raymond {Minnie Ruth} Colvin, Paradise, California; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one sister, Bertha White, Sacramento, California. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband who died in 1970 and a son, Tech. Sgt. Daniel R. Kemp who died in 1960 in Berlin.
