OBITUARY: MARSHALLTOWN TIMES-REPUBLICAN - 16 DECEMBER 1932 - PAGE 11, COL. 5 - FORMER RESIDENT OF CITY DIES AT CAPITAL -Mrs. Emma McDonald, a former resident of Marshalltown, passed away at 11 o'clock Thursday at her home in Des Moines. She had been in poor health for the last three years, during which time she was confined to her bed most of the time. Death was due to asthma and heart trouble. Mrs. McDonald was born Emma Arts, July 4, 1888, in Marshall county, at the family farm home southwest of this city. When she was three years of age the family moved to Marshalltown, where she attended school. She was graduated from St. Mary's school and on Feb 5, 1907, she was married to William Herbert McDonald in this city. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald lived here until seven years ago, when they went to Des Moines, where they had since made their home. Mr. and Mrs. McDonald were the parents of four children. A son died in infancy. The surviving children are David, Margaret and Mary Helen all at home. Six sisters, Mrs. Gus Lang, Mrs. Emil Seleine, Mrs. Clyde Carpenter, Mrs. Frank Shaffer and Mrs. Bertha Jentzen all of this city, and Mrs. Henry Kobbe, of Porter, Minn., also survive. Mr. McDonald died in Des Moines in 1927. Mrs. McDonald was a member of the congregation of St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines. The body was brought to this city today and was taken to the Shaffer home, 307 West Linn street. Services will be held at 9:30 o'clock Saturday from St. Mary's church. in charge of Very Rev. William Leen. Burial will be in Riverside.
