Augusta M. Arts was the daughter of Henry Arts and Augusta C. Gauthier Arts. She married Emil Gust Seleine. Their children were Mrs. Clyde C. Johnson, Harold E. Seleine, Mrs. Ed Didier, John Seleine, Katherine (Mrs. P. J. Agnew) and Francis Seleine.
OBITUARY: MARSHALLTOWN TIMES-REPUBLICAN - TUESDAY - 3 SEPTEMBER 1935 - MRS. SELEINE IS DEAD AFTER LONG SICKNESS - RESIDENT HERE OVER 50 YEARS - FUNERAL PROBABLY FRIDAY. Mrs. Emil Seleine, a resident of Marshall county for more than a half century, and widely known in Marshalltown and vicinity, passed away at her home, 412 Hughes street, at noon today, following a long illness. Mrs. Seleine had been in failing health for several years and her condition had been regarded as critical several times in recent months. She had been a patient at St. Thomas hospital at times but she rallied from several serious periods, particularly one last December. Her last illness had kept her confined in her home for several weeks. Death was due to complications. Mrs. Seleine was born Augusta Arts, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Arts, in Jo Davies county, Illinois, Dec 8, 1873, and she came with her parents to Marshall county in 1884 to live on a farm southwest of Haverhill, and later in Melbourne, until 1890, when she came to Marshalltown with her parents, to continue to make her home here the rest of her life. She was married here to Emil Seleine, June 19, 1895. Mrs. and Mrs. Seleine were the parents of six children, five of whom are living. They are Mrs. Clyde C. Johnson, Lincoln, Ill.; Harold E. Seleine, Chicago; Mrs. Ed Didier, Homewood, Ill; and John and Katherine Seleine, at home. A son, Francis Seleine, met a tragic death in an automobile accident, June 30, 1922. Four sisters also survive. They are Mrs. Henry Kobbe, Porter, Minn.,and Mrs. Clyde C. Carpenter, Mrs. Frank Shaffer and Mrs. Bertha Jentzen, all of this city. Four sisters preceded her in death, one, Mrs. August Lang, passing away in this city only last Thursday, Aug. 29. Altho definite arrangements for the funeral had not been made today the service probably will be held Friday morning from St. Mary's church and burial will be in the family lot in Riverside. The body will be at the home after Wednesday morning.
