Sarah Jane Westerfield Banfill Farmer was born 1801 in Hamilton County, Ohio to Samuel Leander Westerfield and Catherine Monfort Westerfield.

Sarah Jane Westerfield married to Enoch Banfill on July 15, 1828 in Preble County, Ohio. Sarah was widowed when Enoch Banfill died in 1830. Sarah married for a second time to Nathan Farmer Jr. on November 20, 1832 in Preble County, Ohio. Nathan had four children from a previous marriage. Nathan and Sarah Westerfield lived most of their lives in Brown County, Minnesota. Nathan Farmer Jr. died in Brown County, Minnesota in 1872. One years later, her son Sanford D. Farmer also died in Brown County, Minnesota. As a widow, Sarah moved to Logan, Kansas (Phillips County) to live with her daughter and son-in-law (Hiram and Serena Serfoss). Sarah Westerfield Farmer died about 1888 in Phillips County, Kansas.

Nathan and Sarah Farmer had three children together:

i. Belinda Farmer Bayes (b. 1835 in Defiance County, Ohio; d. About May 16, 1917). It is believed that Belinda married Robert F. Bayes (b. 1829 in Farmer, Ohio; d. 1899 in Las Animas, Colorado). They lived with their children for several years in Centerville, Iowa (Appanoose County). Several Census’ spelled their last names as Bays. In the 1900 Census for Las Animas, Colorado Belinda Bayes, age 65 and a widow, was living in Las Animas County, Colorado. She was living there with her widowed daughter Sarah “Estella” Bayes Mahady (married Thomas Mahady), another daughter, Effa Bayes (age 23) and a son Dow Bayes (age 35).

ii. Sanford D. Farmer (42384801) (b. 1837 in Defiance County, Ohio; d. January 31, 1873 in Stark, Minnesota (Brown County).

iii. Serena May Farmer Serfoss (25435971) (b. 1841 in Defiance County, Ohio; d. 1917 in Baca County, Colorado).
