Rev. John Monfort Westerfield (140456893)
Born: July 13, 1793 in Garrard County, Kentucky (VA).
Died: September 16, 1840 in Manilla, Indiana (Rush County).

Father: Rev. Samuel Leander Westerfield (140685559).
Mother: Catherine Monfort Westerfield (5470482).

Wife: Nancy Downing (140458545) (b. 1786 in Garrard County, Kentucky (VA); d. June 10, 1849 in Manilla, Indiana(Rush County).

Rev. John Monfort Westerfield (140456893)(b. July 13, 1793 in Garrard County, Kentucky (VA); d. September 16, 1840 in Manilla, Indiana (Rush County). John Monfort Westerfield accompanied his parents to Preble County, Ohio in his younger years where he engaged in farming. Dr. John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing were married on December 16, 1812 in Warren County, Ohio. She was born in Garrard County, Kentucky. Dr. John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing Westerfield relocated their family to Fayette and Henry Counties, Indiana in 1828. While in Fayette and Henry Counties he worked as a farmer and performed good service for the Church. He studied tirelessly and became a Minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church. In February, 1833 Rev, John Monfort Westerfield and his family relocated again to Manilla, Indiana in Rush County. Rev. John Monfort Westerfield was both a Physician and a Minister who served in Manilla, Indiana and dedicated his life to his faith and the health of others. In September, 1840, while still in the prime of life, Rev. John Monfort Westerfield became ill and died in Manilla, Indiana (Rush County). In 1949, Nancy Downing Westerfield died in Manilla, Indiana at age sixty four.

Rev. John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing Westerfield had eight children together (six born in Preble County, Ohio). Their seventh child, Jacob R. Westerfield and eighth child Isaac Newton Westerfield were born in Henry County, Indiana in 1830 and 1832. Their ninth child, Wilbur R. Westerfield, was born in Rush County, Indiana in 1833. One unknown child died at a very young age in Ohio.



The nine children of Rev. John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing Westerfield were:

1. John W. Westerfield (55496507) (b. June 1, 1816 in Preble County, Ohio, d. September 29, 1895 in Madison County, Indiana).

2. Dr. Cyrus Westerfield (28902995) (b. June 28, 1818 in Eaton, Preble County, Ohio, d. January 28, 1899 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois). Cyrus was born to John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing Westerfield. Cyrus had eight other siblings. Cyrus Westerfield, age 9, moved with his parents and siblings to Henry County, Indiana. Cyrus Westerfield, age 14, moved again with his parents and siblings to Manilla, Rush County, Indiana. Cyrus Westerfield, age 24, married Elizabeth Greene Finch Westerfield (28902996) on October 20, 1842 in Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana. Elizabeth Greene Finch was born in Noblesville, Hamilton County, Indiana and grew up in Alexandria, Madison County, Indiana. Dr. Cyrus Westerfield and his wife Elizabeth had moved to Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and had twelve children together. Cyrus Westerfield and Elizabeth Greene Finch Westerfield died in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois and are buried in Indianola, Warren County, Iowa at the IOOF Cemetery.

3. Samuel Frank Westerfield Sr. (27153255) (b. August 24, 1820 in Eaton, Preble County Ohio, d. March 18, 1889 in Milo, Warren County, Iowa. Samuel Frank Westerfield married Nancy Ann Heflin (27153253) on February 12, 1840 in Rush County, Indiana. They had eight children together (of which six are known).


4. Eliza Jane Westerfield Hilligoss (62746377) (b. 1824 in Ohio, d. 1911 in Madison County, Indiana). Eliza Jane Westerfield married Jacob Edgar Hilligoss on July 31, 1845 in Madison County, Indiana. They had one daughter, Martha Elizabeth Hilligoss Towne. Eliza Jane Westerfield Hilligoss is buried at Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, Indiana (Madison County).

5. William D. Westerfield (140685559) (b. September, 1826 in Cuyahoga County Ohio, d. 1905 in Manilla, Indiana (Rush County). William D. Westerfield and Elizabeth Little Westerfield (1827-1889) were married in Rush County, Indiana on December 28, 1848. They had four children together.

6. Male child, unknown (born and died in Ohio at a very young age).

7. Jacob R. Westerfield (70736133) (b. July 3, 1830 in Henry County, Indiana, d. November 5, 1894 in Madison County, Indiana). Jacob married Nancy A. Headlee Westerfield (125042345) on January 8, 1851 in Rush County, Indiana.

8. Isaac Newton Westerfield (143210866) (b. January 29, 1832 in Henry County, Indiana; d. After 1880 in Rush County, Indiana). He married Sarah J. Little Westerfield (143211228) on January 4, 1860 in Rush County, Indiana. Sarah J. Little Westerfield (143211228)(b. ABT 1839 in Indiana, d. After 1880 in Rush County, Indiana). Isaac Newton Westerfield was the son of Rev. John Monfort Westerfield and Nancy Downing. Isaac Newton Westerfield was a Soldier in the Sixteenth Indiana Infantry. He was promoted from the ranks to position of Captain. He served more than three years in the Union Army during the Civil War.

Isaac Newton Westerfield and Sarah J. Little had three children together:
i. Byron D. Westerfield (b. 1861 in Rush County, Indiana ; d. unknown).

ii. Elizabeth "Lizzie" B. Westerfield Chaney (48245240) (b. September 5, 1867 in Rush County, Indiana; d. February 20, 1939 in Portland, Oregon (Multnomah County). In 1891 she married Joseph W. Chaney (b. 1859 in Polk County, Missouri; d. About 1920). In 1910 Census, they all were living in McCoy, Oregon (Polk County). Lizzie B. Chaney, a widow, has one son Bailey Chaney (b. July 14, 1906 in Missouri; d. August, 1931 in Panama Canal Zone, buried in Multnomah County, Oregon), they were living in Dubois, Idaho (Clark County) in 1920. She was born in Indiana but all of the Census' reflect born in Iowa.

iii. William N. Westerfield (b. 1872 in Arkansas).


9. Wilbur R. "W.R" Westerfield (167455787) (b. 1833 in Manilla, Rush, Indiana; d. 1862 in Manilla, Rush, Indiana). He may have been a Civil War Veteran (he may have actually been killed during the Civil War). He died in 1862 at age 29.
