Peter J. Westerfield Sr. (141872256) ( b. April 14, 1791, Cincinnati , Ohio (Hamilton County), d. February 25, 1846 in Knoxville, Illinois (Knox County). Peter J. Westerfield Sr. was born to Samuel Leander Westerfield and Catherine Monfort Westerfield. Peter J. Westerfield Sr. moved with his mother to Illinois from Eaton, Ohio (Preble County). Peter J. Westerfield Sr. was a Veteran of the War of 1812. He was a Private in Bailey's 6th Regiment, living in New York at the time of the military land transaction on August 24, 1818. Peter J. Westerfield Sr. received a Military Bounty of 160 acres of land record for land in Schuyler Co IL. Peter J. Westerfield Sr. was a licensed Baptist Preacher and Old Frontiersman. Peter J. Westerfield Sr. married Elizabeth Betsy Doughman (5470440) and (47556520) in Clermont, Ohio on August 1, 1811. Elizabeth was born in Centre County, Pennsylvania on August 18, 1794 and died on August 13, 1868 in Knoxville, Illinois (Knox County). They had eleven children together.

The eleven children of Peter J. Westerfield Sr. and Elizabeth Betsy Doughman are:

1. Peter Westerfield Jr. (141908347) (b. 1812 in Ohio; d. February 2, 1845 in Knox County, Illinois).

2. Samuel Westerfield (22400747) (b. in Knox County, Illinois, d. Before 1820 in Knoxville, Illinois (Knox County). His middle initial is unknown. Died about age 5.

3. Sarah Jane Westerfield Hawley (5446167) (b. August, 1818 ; d. 1902 in Orange, Illinois (Knox County). She married Henry Hawley on April 3, 1841.

4. Michael "James" Westerfield (79989794) (b. 1823 in Fulton County, Illinois; d. September, 1874 in Fulton County, Illinois). He married Sarah Hollie Naylor McCormick in 1857 in Illinois. Sarah was born 1835 in Ireland and died 1910 in Buckheart, Illinois (Fulton County). They had five children together. Note: Michael James Westerfield (79989794), Sarah Hollie Naylor McCormick Westerfield (79989864) and their son, Samuel (79989864) are all buried together at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, Illinois (Fulton County).

5. Mary Jane Westerfield Wadsworth (b. 1825 in Illinois ; d. 1855 in Knox County, Illinois). She married Benjamin W. Wadsworth on September 5, 1850 in Knox County, Illinois.
She lived in Galesburg, Illinois (Knox County).

6. Jacob Westerfield (5470444) (b. 1826 in Illinois; d. July 21, 1846 in Knox County, Illinois.

7. Samuel James Westerfield Sr. (107404186) (b. August 1, 1827 in Fulton County, Illinois; d. February 25, 1889 in Fulton County, Illinois). He married Susan Haines Westerfield (145474360) on August 9, 1849 in Fulton County, Illinois. They had ten children together. Samuel James Westerfield Sr. is buried at High Bridge Cemetery in Fulton County, Illinois near his wife Susan Haines Westerfield.

8. Isaac Westerfield (109134246) (b. June 2, 1830 in Fulton County, Illinois; d. July 11, 1907 in Monmouth, Illinois (Warren County). Isaac was a Wagon Maker. He is buried at Monmouth Cemetery. Isaac Westerfield married Mary Ann Shellenbeger on February 23, 1851 in Fulton County, Illinois.

9. Martha Westerfield Hanthorn (57141113) (b. February 25, 1832 in Canton, Illinois (Fulton County) ; d. June 25, 1875 in Newton, Iowa (Jasper County). She married George Washington Hanthorn on September 27, 1849 in Knox County, Illinois. Martha's brother, Isaac, was sent to courthouse by her mother to swear that she had given permission for daughter Martha to marry George Hanthorn. They had nine children together.

10. Amy Emma Westerfield Raney (66662873) (b. April 1, 1834 in Fulton County, Illinois; d. December 9, 1869 in Douglas, Iowa (Appanoose County). She married John Albert Raney Sr. on September 8, 1853 in Knox County, Illinois.

11. Carey A. Westerfield (76907988) (b. February 27, 1836 ; d. May 26, 1903. He married Kaziah Jane Wallick Westerfield on July 13, 1856. They had three children together:
Carrey Wilson Westerfield (1865 - 1922)
Frederick Charles Westerfield (1868 - 1928)
Francis M Westerfield (1881 - 1955)
Note: Carey and Kaziah had three infant children who died at birth and are buried together at Greenwood Cemetery (79990087).

Inscription

In 1975 we thought this may be a stone have been a child's. It has been almost black in color since then and unreadable. Peter left a will in Knox County and makes sense that he would be buried here.
