Glenn E. Miller, 75, of Camdenton, MO, began his eternal journey, after a brief illness, on July 21, 2005 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born October 4, 1929 in Waterman, IL, the son of Fredrick and Gertrude (Plugfelder) Miller.He was a gentle man with a delightful sense of humor. A hard worker who cared deeply for his family, adored his grandchildren, and cherished his friends. A man who enjoyed people and life.He grew up on the family farm in the Hinckley and Maple Park area of Illinois, where he graduated from Maple Park High School. He met and married the love of his life, Patricia (McGlashan) Miller, whom he married on November 10, 1950. For 54 years, they shared their life together surrounded by family and friends. They lived and raised their family in North Aurora, IL, where he was employed in his early years by the Aurora Packing Company. He retired after 23 years with the Conco Western Stone Company, where he worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator. In 1998, they moved to Lake of the Ozarks in Camdenton, MO, where he enjoyed his retirement years golfing, fishing, and where many will remember him as a smiling and friendly face at the security gate of Old Kinderhook golf course and Country Club in Camdenton.He was a member of the Union Congregational Church in North Aurora, IL, and the Camdenton United Methodist Church. He was an active member of the North Aurora Lions Club for 32 years. After serving in many capacities for the club, he was the recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow award for dedicated humanitarian services.He is survived by his wife, Patricia; two sons, Steve Miller and Randy (Michelle) Miller of North Aurora, IL; a daughter, Dianne (Dennis) Blake of Camdenton, MO; nine grandchildren, Brent (Heather) Johnson of San Antonio, TX, Stephanie Johnson, Michelle Johnson, Jessica (Dan) Kindred, Carrie (Chuck) Keller, Brooke (Eric) Ekstrom, April (Dustin) Davis, Adam Miller, Alex Miller, Jeremy, Jacque, and Jared Williams; nine great-grandchildren; godchild, Johnathan Drendel; and a special friend of the family, Judy Gary; a sister, Dorothy Phillips; and a sister-in-law, Charlotte Miller of Hinckley, IL; and many nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of good friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Benjamin Miller; three brothers, Francis, Harold, and Leslie; a brother-in-law, Herbert Phillips; two sisters-in-law, Alice Mae and Lorraine Miller; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Phillips.Friends are invited to join the family in a Memorial Service for the celebration of his life directed by Rev. Mark Alvis and Rev. Keith Hallam on Saturday, July 30, 2005 at the Union Congregational Church in North Aurora at 10:30 AM. Interment will be private.Arrangements by Hedges Funeral home in Camdenton, MO.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the "Glenn Miller Memorial Fund" c/o Old Second National Bank of North Aurora.
