Born in East Donegal Twp., Lancaster County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Z. and Ella Heisey Miller. She was the beloved wife of Harold E. Hollinger for 57 years on June 1.
Ruth was a member of Elizabethtown Grace Brethren Church and was recently attending Evangelical Free Church of Hershey. She was a children's Sunday School teacher and enjoyed singing sacred music with various small groups & choirs. She was a 1951 graduate of the former East Donegal High School and worked in the book store of Elizabethtown College in her early years. She later was employed as a waitress at the former Clearview Diner for 18 years and most recently she was a billing clerk for Physicians Support System before retiring in 2008.
In addition to working outside of her home, Ruth was a committed homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening and preserving the produce she grew, sewing, and baking. She was particularly known for the delicious shoofly pies she baked and shared with others. Above all, she always enjoyed the time spent with her family.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, John K.husband of Laurie R. Good Hollinger, parents of Miranda, Kelsey, and Kendra, of Marietta, Brian K., husband of Carol A. Showalter Hollinger, parents of Courtney and Tyler, of Denver, PA, Arlan L., husband of Diane M. Hiestand Hollinger, parents of Jenna, Andrew, Sarah, and Austin, of Mount Joy, and Janis L., wife of Richard M. Broomell, parents of Ben, Sam, and Rachel; and two great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daryl K.
Hollinger; and five siblings, Norman Miller, Miriam Herr, John Miller, Ralph Miller, and Anna Rutt.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 11:00 AM at West Green Tree Church of the Brethren, 740 Greentree Road, Elizabethtown, PA with Pastors Mick Allen, Daryl Heistand, and George Davis officiating.
Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church on Tuesday evening from 6-8:00 PM and on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. If desired, contributions may be made in her memory to Camp Conquest, 480 Forest Road, Denver, PA 17517.
