Hazleton Standard Speaker; Wednesday, March 20, 1963:
In ill health for some time, Raymond Yeager, 66, of 308 East Juniper street, was found dead in his burning car two miles west of Route 29 near Hudsondale on a township road in Packer Township at 11 a.m. yesterday. His death was caused by a self-inflicted bullet wound of the head, said Dr. Serge E. Grynkewich, Carbon County Coroner. The back seat of the car on which the body was slouched was still smoldering when the body was discovered. Hazleton State Police said 50 per cent of the body had third degree burns. A gasoline can was nearby. Members of the family had reported Yeager missing from home since 5:30 p.m. Monday. The body was discovered by Gerald Duffy, a Bell Telephone Company employe. Conducting the investigation are Hazleton State Police Detective Sergeant Michael J. Dean, Detective Joseph Hines, Corporal Ralph Cameron, and Trooper Walter J. Herchak. The Weatherly Fire Company was also called to the scene. The body was removed from the car by Trooper Herchak and Emil G. Levitsky and Stanley G. Lincalis, West Hazleton ambulance crew. Deputy Coroner Philip J. Jeffries, Weatherly, ordered the body removed to the Lamont H. Zimmerman Funeral Home, Lehighton, where Dr. Grynkewich performed the autopsy. The body was released to the Grebey Gleim and Beltz Funeral Home in this city.

Yeager was a retired pump man for the Lehigh Valley Coal Company at Hazleton Shaft Colliery. He was born in Hazleton son of the late Christian and Frederickia (Ahlborn) Yeager, and resided here all his life. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of World War One and a member of Drake-Wear Post 589, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Surviving are his wife, Rose (Boyle) Yeager, a daughter, Catherine, wife of Capt. Lester Strohl, with the U.S. Air Force in England; three grandchildren. Three sisters also survive: Mrs. Thomas James, Hazleton; Mrs. Martha Drumm, Freeland; and Mrs. Tobias Eichler, Wilkes-Barre.

The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. from the Grebey, Beltz and Gleim Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Allen H. Roth, pastor of Christ Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Mount Laurel Memorial Park. There will be no viewing. Friends may call Friday afternoon and evening.
