One of Alexandria's best known and most loved pioneer women was called by death last Sunday when Mrs. C. J. Bedman passed away at her home in Ida township and the news of her death leaves a feeling of personal loss to everyone in this community.
For nearly fifty years Bedman's Beach on Lake Ida the Bedmans have been prominent in building up the Lake Region as a resorter's paradise. Since the time of Mr. Bedman's death in 1910, Mrs. Bedman and her son Harry have been operating their resort and building it up to the popular place that it is.
Christine Erickson was born in Dalarna, Sweden, April 3, 1864, and was only four years old when her parents came to this country with their four children and settled in Ida township. Here she grew to womanhood and in 1891 married C. J. C. Bedman. Mr. Bedman's property was turned into a resort, one of the first in Douglas county, and the Bedmans have made that their occupation since that time.
Funeral services were held at the Bedman home yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Rev. J. R. Davies conducting the service. The pallbearers were David Peterson, Frank Floding, Emil Peterson, Arthur Floding, Erick Erdahl and Charlie Braunschweig.
Surviving her are her son Harry, and one brother, E. G. Erickson, both of this city; her sisters, Mrs. Nels Floding (Annie), Mrs. Andrew Hokanson (Carrie), and Mrs. Peter Floding (Mary) all have preceded her in death.

Mrs. Christina Bedman, one of the very earliest settlers left, passed on over the Great Divide last Sunday, July 31, at her home in Ida township, aged 68 years. For more than sixty years she had been a resident of this county, coming here with her parents at the age of four early in the 60s when Douglas county was a part of the frontier.
Mrs. Bedman was born in Dalarna, Sweden, on April 3, 1964. Four years later her parents came to America with their four children and took up a homestead in Ida township. She grew to womanhood there and was united in marriage to C. J. C. Bedman in 1891. One son, Harry, was born to this union.
Mrs. and Mrs. Bedman were the first to recognize the possibilities of Douglas county as a summer resort section and the resort which they opened on Lake Ida, "Bedman's Beach" has been operated continuously for more than 50 years, and has been a popular summer resort during all of that time.
A brother, E. G. Erickson, survives Mrs. Bedman, but the sisters who came over with her from Sweden have all passed away, as well as the sister Mary (Mrs. Peter Floding) who was born in this country, who died last year. The others were: Annie (Mrs. Nels Floding) who died in 1882 and Carrie (Mrs. Andrew Hokanson).
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at Bedman's Beach; Rev. Davies officiating. The pallbearers were: Charles Braunschweig, David Peterson, Emil Peterson, Frank Floding, Arthur Floding and Erick Ekdahl.
