Peter Guss, one of the pioneer residents of the community, passed away about 6 o'clock Tuesday morning following another stroke of paralysis. He sustained a first stroke last September, and a more severe one a few weeks ago. Monday of this week he was working as usual about the farm in the north edge of Indian Creek township, which he recently sold preparatory to removal to Winamac. The fatal attack came Tuesday morning without warning, and he succumbed a short time later. Nearly all of Mr. Guss' eighty-eight years were spent in Pulaski County. He was born in Pennsylvania on April 3, 1836, and came to this county with his parents when he was a boy. In early life he was married to Miss Sarah Foss, and eleven children were born to them. Two of these survive--Edward Guss of Indianapolis and Mrs. Johanna Freeman of Dalton, Georgia. Following the death of his first wife he was married to Miss Jennie Murray, and the two children born to that union are living. They are Henry Guss of Galveston, Texas, and Mrs. Marie Shellhart of Columbus, Ohio. In more recent years Mr. Guss was married to Sarah Rarrick, who survives. Mr. Guss was a veteran of the Civil War, having enlisted early in the conflict. He was one of a family of several brothers and sisters, all of whom have now passed away except two--Mrs. Julia Hoover of Winamac and Mrs. Malinda Davis of Delaware, Ohio. The funeral was held this afternoon with services at the Winamac Christian Church and interment in the Winamac Cemetery.
