Mr. Collen James died at his home in Hastings, Nebraska, Thursday June 1 at the age of 71.
He was born April 12, 1834 in Vermillion County, state of Indiana. In 1855 he was married to Sarah W. Malone, who departed this life April 3, 1856 leaving him one son Frank W. James, who lives in Clinton.
He married Maria Aikman Oct. 13, 1851. To then was born four children, two sons and two daughters. The daughters survives him. Mrs. E. M. Latyon, at Atlanta, GA and Mrs. G Burger at Joliet, Il. He lived within a few miles of his old home until the spring of '78 at which time be removed to Hastings, Nebraska, where he was living at the time of his death.
He was one of a family of twelve children eight brothers and four sisters. Two sisters and one brother survive him Mrs. Millie Mack at Terre Haute, Ind. and Miss Lydia James and Joseph James at Summit Grove, Ind.
He was loved by all who knew his, being an especial favorite of children. He was of a happy disposition always looking on the bright side of life. His intellect was bright and in currant events no one was better informed. His favorite hymn was 'Pass me not Oh gentle Savior.'
His remains were brought from Hastings and the funeral service were held at the Sales church Sunday afternoon, Rev. Matthews officiating, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Helts's Prairie cemetery.

C. James, who for twenty-seven years was a resident of Hastings during which time he was engaged in the express delivery business, died yesterday to typhoid fever. The deceased was 71 years of age, His son, F. W. James, and grandson Everett, of Clinton, Ind. arrived in Hastings yesterday shortly before the death. The remains were shipped today for interment at Clinton.
