Alvin Summers - Aged 97 years. Born Feb. 29,1808. Died Aug. 23, 1904 at 8:30 P.M. Tuesday Night at the home of his son, Sheriff W. Summers on Race St., Statesville. Mr. Summers was the oldest known citizen of the county.Being born in leap year he only had 28 birthdays in his 96 years. He was a son of the late W.I.Summers, born in Sharpesburg Township where he spent most all his life. Mr. Summers was the father of 6 boys and 5 girls; and of them 5 daughters and three sons survive.
His oldest son was kicked by a mule and died from the injuries. The third son was killed in the war. Sheriff Summers, the youngest son is 49 years old. The surviving children are: Mrs. L. Hartness, Sharpesburg Township; Mrs. Isabella Millsaps, Olin Township; Misses Caroline and Adline Summers who lived with their father; D.L. Summers of Eddy, Texas; N.T. Summers of Union Grove; Mrs. J.C. Horton, Indian Territory; and Sheriff W.A.Summers of Statesville. Burial at Snow Creek Church.
