John Curd Edmunds was born in Barren County, Kentucky on Aug. 5, 1853, the son of Charles Penn and Elizabeth T. Eubank Edmunds. He was the 12th of 13 children of their marriage.

At the age of 24, John married Sarah "Sallie" Agnes Waller in Barren County. They had five children: Walter Roger, James Buford, Leonard Matthews, Agnes Mary (who died at the age of 2 months) and Flora Laura.

On June 17, 1904, Sallie Edmunds passed away at Beechhurst Sanitarium near Louisville, Jefferson County, Kentucky after a four months' illness.

John Edmunds remarried on Oct. 4, 1906. His bride was Elizabeth "Bettie" Holland Holman.

But the marriage was short lived, and John Curd Edmunds died on Oct. 13, 1909 at his new home in the Oil City area of Barren County.
