Charles is the son of Cyrus and Mary Ann (Batterby) Stata of Stormont, Ontario, Canada. He is the second oldest of 10 children born into this family. Charles immigrated to the United States via New York in 1863 and served in the Union Infantry, Company C, New York 1863-1867. Eventually he moved to Minnesota near or about 1879. Married Carrie Marie Pearson on Feb. 11,1879 in Cambridge , Isanti Co., Minnesota. Charles and Carrie had 12 Children
