Graveside services for R.W. "Riley Wheatley" Burkhart were Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. in Lakeview Cemetery with Rev. John Sconce officiating.
Mr. Burkhart was born August 27, 1915, at Bomar and died January 3, 1998, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore, at the age of 82. He was the son of Eunice Ira and Ellie Gordon Burkhart.
A resident of Love County all of his life, Mr. Burkhart married Lillie M. Freeman on March 5, 1938, at Marietta. He retired from the Oklahoma State Highway Department as an equipment operator and also retired as a farmer/rancher.
Mr. Burkhart was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church.
Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Riley and Peggy Burkhart of Irving, Texas, Ira and Jo Burkhart of Marietta, and Harvey and Sharon Burkhart of Ardmore; a daughter and son-in-law, Joyce and Jesse Kirk of Marietta; three brothers, W.B. "Bunch" Burkhart and George Van Burkhart of Marietta and Ira Melton Burkhart of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Beulah Alagood of Marietta; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burkhart was preceded in death by his wife on January 22, 1997; two sisters, five brothers and two great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home with grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers.
The family has asked that memorials be made to Lake Country Manor Nursing Home Activity Department, 401 C.E. Colston Drive, Marietta, OK 73448.
