Services for Beulah Burkhart Alagood, 95, of Marietta were Saturday a.m. at the Eastside Baptist Church with Dr. Alton Fannin officiating.
Born September 15, 1903, at Bomar, Chickasaw Nation, to Eunice Ira and Ellie Gordon Burkhart, Mrs. Alagood died February 3, 1999, in the Norman Regional Hospital.
A resident of the Marietta area most of her life, she married Oscar Milas Alagood on April 11, 1930, at Tishomingo. As a young woman Mrs. Alagood worked in the fields and took care of the sick. During the 30's she and her husband operated a cafe in Dallas, Texas, where they gave away more food to the hungry than they sold. Mrs. Alagood ws a homemaker, a diligent friend who helped the victims of local house fires by providing clothing and an easy meal for the numerous hobos who passed through Marietta during the 50's.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Marietta and active in the WMU. Mrs. Alagood enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, quilting, dominoes and crossword puzzles.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Milas and Connie Alagood of Oklahoma City and Robert and Margaret Alagood of Denton, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Una and Neal Hardin of Norman; three brothers, George Van Burkhart and W.B. "Bunch" Burkhart of Marietta and Ira Melton Burkhart of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Thela Alagood of Little Rock, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Alagood was preceded in death by her husband on December 19, 1984; a son, Oscar Laverne Alagood; two infant siblings; four brothers, S.B. "Buck" Burkhart, Todd Burkhart, E.C. "Grandpappy" Burkhart and R.W. "Wheat" Burkhart; and two sisters, Mary Burkhart White and Mahota Burkhart.
Interment in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Thackerville, was directed by Kennedy Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Riley Burkhart, Bob Burkhart, Rick Burkhart, Jesse Kirk, Vonder "Pete" Burkhart, David Burkhart, Harold White and Rex White.
