Herman "Herm" George Meiners, a World War I veteran, was born September 24,1898 in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio, the first-born surviving child of George Gerard Meiners and Clara H. Estermann Meiners. He had six siblings who survived early infancy and childhood (out of about thirteen children born). His ancestry was German.

On April 30, 1927 in Cincinnati Herm married Martha F. Blum Meiners (buried in Cincinnati's Saint Joseph Cemetery), and they had a daughter, Miriam Martha Meiners Bankemper. Martha died in 1952, and Herm remarried to widow Louise "Lou" Elizabeth Ziegler Schuler Meiners on February 28, 1953 in Cincinnati. Herm had three stepdaughters, including Phyllis Louise Schuler Heizer and Carolyn Eva Schuler Merchant. For years Herm lived at 2417 Fairview Avenue. He was godfather to his niece, Catherine Therese "Katie" Donnelly O'Fallon.

Herm died at age 68 on August 31, 1967 in Cincinnati, and his funeral was at old Saint Monica Roman Catholic Church. He is buried near his second wife in Arlington Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Hamilton County.
