FRIENDS RELATE HOW GALLAGHER FOUGHT KRUGLE
Witnesses in coroner's inquest on death of Dougherty boy
That Bernard Gallagher, 19 year old Dougherty youth, may have received the injuries that caused his death in a fistic encounter with Lew Krugle, Swaledale, at a country dance Saturday night, was indicated by the testimony of a number of witnesses at a coroner's inquest at the courthouse Thursday.
Gallagher, who was brought to the hospital Monday night, died Wednesday evening from what an autopsy revealed to be an injured right kidney, ruptured bladder and peritonitis.
The altercation between Gallagher and Krugle occurred at a barn dance held at the Clark Van Hoosen place near Rockwell, where, according to the testimony, the "flaming youth" of the southeast part of the county were gathered.
Witnesses, most of whom were of high school age, stated that they did not know how the fight started, but several of them said that an argument about some light bulbs was in progress before the first blow was struck.
The witnesses did not know what became of Gallagher or whether the dance was over but they believed the fight took place shortly after midnight and Krugle stated that he was home by 2 o'clock Sunday morning.
