Hannah Whitener, the daughter of Benjamin Whitener and Mary Magdalena Whisenhunt, was born 1799/1800 in Lincoln Co., NC. She married Sampson Hawn January 3, 1822 in Lincoln Co., NC. Sampson was the son of Christian Hawn and Anna Magdalena Shell. By 1830 they were in Cape Girardeau Co., MO. They appeared again in 1840 and 1850 in the same county. Most Hawn researchers list nine children: Margaret Eliza, Benjamin, Alfred, Henry, Daniel, John, Peter, Andrew Jackson, and Mary "Polly" Ann. The 1850 census is the last known record of Hannah and Sampson Hawn. The 1850 census was taken Nov. 16, 1850, so Hannah and Sampson died after that. Their place of burial is unknown; it was probably on their own land.
