When DOROTHY 'SKIP' WILSON was born on 9 Apr 1925, in Essex, Stoddard County, Missouri, her father, JOHN TILLMAN WILSON, III, was 27 and her mother, LILLIE MELINDA SNIDER, was 27. She was the 3rd of 6 children; and she also had 1 older half-brother from her father's first marriage to MARY ELSIE BROWN WILSON EASTMAN STRAWN:

•Delmar Eugene 'Curly' Wilson 1916-1972, WWII Veteran, US Army, SSgt
•Vernon Charles Wilson, WWII Veteran, US Army, PFC
•Amna Louise Wilson Wolfe, WWII Veteran, US Navy WAVE, S1C
•Dorothy 'Skip' Wilson Cook 1925-2014
•Calvin (—) Wilson 1927-1959, WWII Veteran, US Navy, S2C
•Norman (—) Wilson 1932-2009, Korean War Veteran, US Army, Sgt
•Marion Joyce Wilson Whitaker

Her sister Amna who was less than 3 years older than Dorothy, says this about the Essex area where 4 of the siblings were born: "If you went down one road, it was called the Dexter mail service, and if you went down the other road, it was considered Essex. Sometimes the family said one or the other!"

On 9 Apr 1948, Dorothy's 23rd birthday, she married HOMER THEODORE 'TED' COOK in Kodiak, Kodiak Island, Alaska. They were blessed with 2 daughters during their 11-year marriage before Ted died in France while still serving in the U.S. Navy:

•Linda Wilma Cook
•Deborah Ann 'Debbie' Cook

When Dorothy was 13, her mother died of fatal blood poisoning following a miscarriage. After her mother's death, her father was lost and blamed himself, so the kids learned very early that they had to be responsible. That's one reason why all 4 brothers and 1 sister (Amna) served in the military during World War II; and Dorothy had a full-time career working in Washington DC as a Secretary for Congressman Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon, a Republican from New York. Dorothy was able to help her youngest sister, Joyce, get a career job working for the U.S. Navy as a civilian in Chicago.

After retirement, Dorothy moved back to Michigan, and later lived with her daughter Debbie's family in North Carolina the last 3 years of her life. She died at the age of 89 on 16 Aug 2014, in Lexington, North Carolina; and is buried along side her husband at Arlington National Cemetery.
