When CALVIN (—) WILSON was born on 9 Feb 1927, in Dexter, Stoddard County, Missouri, his father, JOHN TILLMAN WILSON, III, was 29 and his mother, LILLIE MELINDA SNIDER, was 29. He was the 4th of 6 children; and he also had 1 older half-brother from his father’s first marriage to MARY ELSIE BROWN WILSON EASTMAN STRAWN:

•Delmar Eugene ‘Curly' Wilson 1916-1972, WWII Veteran, US Army, SSgt
•Vernon Charles Wilson, WWII Veteran, US Army, PFC
•Amna Louise Wilson Wolfe, WWII Veteran, US Navy WAVE, S1C
•Dorothy ‘Skip' Wilson Cook 1925-2014
•Calvin (—) Wilson 1927-1959, WWII Veteran, US Navy, S1C
•Norman (—) Wilson 1932-2009, Korean War Veteran, US Army, Sgt
•Marion Joyce Wilson Whitaker

His sister Amna who was less than 5 years older than Calvin, says this about the area where 4 of the siblings were born: “If you went down one road, it was called the Dexter mail service, and if you went down the other road, it was considered Essex. Sometimes the family said one or the other!”

When Calvin was 11, his mother died following a miscarriage. After his mother’s death, his father was lost and blamed himself, so the kids learned very early that they had to be responsible. That’s one reason why all 4 brothers and 1 sister (Amna) served in the military during World War II; and sister Dorothy had a government career in Washington DC as a Secretary for Republican New York Congressman, Gerald Brooks Hunt Solomon. His youngest sister, Joyce, had a career working for the U.S. Navy as a civilian in Chicago.

Calvin was a World War II veteran. He enlisted on 18 May 1944 with the U.S. Naval Reserve, served for 2 years and attained the rank of Seaman 1st Class (S1C). He was honorably discharged on 29 May 1946.

He was married to MARY JEAN HORTON BONDARENKO (1930-1987). He tragically died at the age of 32 in a house fire when he was home alone and fell asleep. He is buried at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Flint, Genesee County, Michigan.
