CULBERTSON -- Jake Heinbigner, 86, died Thursday (February 19, 1998) at Hillcrest Nursing Home in McCook.

He was born July 15, 1911 at Frank, Russia to George and Katherine (Heinbigner) Heinbigner. The Heinbigner family came to the United States in 1913. Jake received his schooling in Loveland, Colorado.

At age 16 he moved to Culbertson and began farming.

On January 1, 1935 he married Marie Wacker at Oberlin. She preceded him in death in 1960. In July 1961 he married Mildred Hazelton at Culbertson. He was employed by the Farmers Co-op at Culbertson for 20 years, retiring in 1976.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, two brothers, and two sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred Heinbigner, Culbertson; four daughters, Kathy Jo and husband Tom Golden of Branson, Missouri; Sue Ellen Heinbigner of Culbertson; Linda and husband Bill Smitherman, Bristol, Rhode Island; June and husband Rick McDonald of Culbertson; three brothers, John and wife, Geneva Eckhardt, McCook; Jake and wife, Marg Eckhardt, Englewood, Colorado; Dave and wife, Florence Eckhardt, Lake Havasu City, Arizona; four sisters, Esther and husband Conrad Sinner, Denver; Katherine Adams, McCook; Darlene and husband Dale Leibrandt, Danbury; and Marian Roach, Littleton, Colorado; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be Monday, 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Culbertson with the Rev. Don Morton officiating. Interment will be in the Culbertson Cemetery. Memorials will be accepted in his name. Friends may call at the Herrmann Funeral Chapel in Culbertson. Herrmann Funeral Chapel of Culbertson are in charge of arrangements.
