Demarius was the oldest child of Samuel McGehee, Jr., and his first wife, Sarah Ferguson.

♥ m. 16 Jan 1834, Amite Co, MS, to Asa B Cotten.

The exact year of her death is unknown, however, Demarius was in the 1850 Federal Census, Amite Co, MS, with her husband and older children. Demarius and Asa's youngest child, Asa Bluitt Cotten was born 2 Jan 1852, and is found in the 1860 Federal Census, Amite Co, MS, with Demarius' father and step-mother, Samuel McGehee, Jr, and Elizabeth Dykes.

Samuel's will, written in 1864 and executed after his death, listed Demarius' as being a deceased daughter, and gave equal portions of her share to the children listed in the will.

• Cassandra Adeliza "Nancy or Ann" Cotten (19 Nov 1835 Amite Co, MS - 1880) m/1st James D Sterling, father of her eight children: Sarah D (132666969), John (ca 1855-), Mary Adeliza (ca 1858-), James (ca 1860-), Joseph Beauregard (ca 1864-), Harriet Josephine "Hattie"(ca 1864-), Charles (ca 1899-), and Henry/Haley S (ca 1869). Nancy m/2nd Philip Sylvester.
• Sarah Lucretia Cotten (ca 1838 MS - ) m/1st 24 Oct 1853 Christopher D "Kit" Pate. They were the parents of Tom Pate and Addie Pate. M/2nd Joseph Brown. They were the parents of 1) LaDonnis V. Brown (28311715); 2) George Brown, taken to Okahoma when he was 3 months old by an Alford Family. He died when a young man; and 3) Asa Brown who died when a small boy.
• Sarah T Cotten (ca 1839 MS - ) who is found, at the age of 10, in the 1850 Federal Census, Amite Co, MS, with her parents. She married Orlando Brown 07 May 1867 in Amite Co, MS.
• Abner B Cotten (ca 1850 - ) was very young when his mother passed away. He is found in the 1850 Federal Census, Amite Co, MS. The McGehee Descendants book cited below states that Abner married Kizanna Bradshaw.
