On March 29, 1945, Doris was united in marriage to George A. Bakalyar in Windom. This marriage was blessed with three children, Nancy, Douglas and Sandra.
Through the years, Doris worked for Wolff's Clothing Store and Benson Office Supply both in Windom as their bookkeepers and also was a loving wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She was an avid sports fan-Twins, Vikings, volleyball and basketball with Doris and George being elected as "FANS OF THE YEAR in Windom. They LOVED their camping club and all the trips they took. In the earlier years, they took their grandchildren camping, fishing and to ice shows in the twin cities. Doris was always doing handiwork-embroidering, dish towels, making baby blankets and bibs. The family loved those gifts!
Doris recently became suddenly ill and was hospitalized at the Windom Area Hospital where she passed away on Saturday evening, June 28, 2014, having lived ALL 93 years in Windom. Doris was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Windom and a former member of the Uving Word Lutheran Church in Windom. Through the years, Doris was involved with her church as a Sunday School Teacher, Bible School Teacher, Ladies Aid, Circle, quilt sewing for missions and Ladies Chorus. She also was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader.
Doris is survived by her three children, Nancy (Kurt) Evans of North Mankato; Douglas (Jeanne) Bakalyar of Mankato; Sandra (Jim) Robinson of Windom; 5 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Carlblom of Windom and several nieces and nephews. Doris is preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Bakalyar on November 9, 2010; three brothers, Lowell, Wilbert and William Purrington; and one sister, Wilma Kissner.
