Charles C. Kizer Jr, 62, of 233 Hunter Drive, Fairplain, was found dead in his home Saturday at about 3:40 a.m. by his wile, Kathryn. St. Joseph township Patrolman Larry Eichelberger said the death was a suicide.

Dr. Paul Tarn said he ruled death was caused by a single gunshot to the head that could have been self-inflicted. A .38-caliber pistol was found by Mr. Kizer's side, Eichelberger said, and a note was left. Mr. Kizer retired from the Benton Harbor Sears. Roebuck and Co. store in 1975 because of illness. Dr. Tarn said Mr. Kizer was apparently suffering from heart disease. Mr. Kizer was born April 28; 1916, in Litchfield, Ill.
He was a retired lieutenant of the Benton Harbor police auxiliary.

Surviving are his widow, the former Kathryn Thomas; a son, Richard, Oshkosh, Wis.: a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Margaret) Adams, St. Joseph; two brothers, Paul, Ann Arbor, Robert, St. Joseph; a sister, Mrs. Harvey (Marguerite) Coble, Stevensville.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Peace Temple United Methodist church. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Memorial Park. Friends may call at the Fairplain Chapel, Florin Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Michigan Heart Association and Michigan Diabetes Fund.
