John Glen Sanford, 82, peacefully passed away April 18, 2014, and was reunited with his sweetheart, Vonda, who preceded him in death. The 51-year resident of Las Vegas lived a selfless life of service and devotion and will be greatly missed. Born Sept. 27, 1931, Glen was the youngest of eight children of Frank J. and Flossie Veneta Sanford of Springville, Utah.

His early life on the family farm taught him discipline and responsibility which laid a strong foundation for the challenges and demands of later life. He excelled at the University of Utah where he matriculated with not only an academic scholarship but also an athletic scholarship which he received in part for his innate ability to drive a basketball down court and score. As a guard for the University of Utah, Glen not only showcased his love of basketball but his pension for teamwork and sportsmanship, lifelong strengths that he strove to instill in his children later in his life. But basketball wasn't his only love, so Glen married his soul mate, Vonda Clayson, Sept. 10, 1953, for time and all eternity. After he was married, Glen completed ROTC training and joined the U.S. Air Force, where he served for five years before joining the private sector to begin his career at Arthur Young and Company. Glen was elected president of the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1978, and later started the CPA firm, Sanford and Company. He was also actively engaged in community affairs. In 1974, he co-founded Nevada Citizens for Responsible Government, and was elected chairman, serving for six years. He received the Public Service Award for Outstanding Service to His Community and Profession, bestowed by the Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1988. Glen was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served for over six decades in various capacities including Young Men's President, Bishop, High Counselor, member of the Stake Presidency and Regent Agent. He was also called as Mission president to open the Cherry Hill New Jersey Mission from 1995-1998. Glen's greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by sisters, Ruth Brinton and Ina Bird; as well as his seven children, Steven, Brenda (Alan), Brian (Linda), Lee Ann (Eric), Julie (Chris), John (Pitrice) and David.

Viewing will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday, April 26, with funeral services following, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Tropicana Chapel, 2275 E. Tropicana Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119. . Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 28, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville.
