John Semple (a) was born 23 April 1879 at 3:30 p.m., the son of Henry Barr Semple (1850-1918) and Jeanie "Janet" (Stewart) Semple (1849-1925). His father was a coal miner roadman.

John was the brother of William Semple (1871-1944); Jane Campbell (Semple) Whitelaw (1872-1953); Janet (Semple) Lang (1876-1953); Henry Semple, Sr (1881-1953); Marion (Semple) Mauchline (1883-1955); Thomas Semple (1886-1953); Agnes (Semple) Haddon (1889-1974) and Isabella "Isabel" Semple (1891-1969).

On 31 December 1900, John married Jeanie Hampton Sneddon at Little Struther, Dalserf, Lanark, Scotland.

They became the parents of Henry Semple (1901-1973); Helen (Semple) Meikle (1904-1940) and George Sneddon Semple (1908-1978). After the birth of their son, George, John traveled to Canada to work and move his family there (b). Later in his life, he became known as "Grampa" or "Grampa John".

On 24 Oct 1941, John Semple, age 62, died and buried at Stonehouse Cemetery in Glasgow, Glasgow City, Scotland (c).

Footnotes: (a) 3-11-2014 comment from grandson, John Semple, on his Grand Dad's name (John Semple): "...this is my Grandad, John, Henry's brother... He looks so like my son who we thought we had named after him only to discover that Great Grandad (Henry B. Semple) had forgotten to include his middle name 'Stewart' on his birth certificate. I like it anyway so my oldest is called John Stuart, we call him 'Stuart' in the family." (b) 11-27-2011 comment from grandson John Semple, Sheffield, Scotland: "John Semple and his brother Henry emigrated to Vancouver in 1909. His other brother, Thomas, also emigrated at this time to California." (c) 3-17-2014 comment from grandson, John Semple: "Grand dad John died in the royal infirmary in Glasgow but was returned to his home village of Stonehouse to be buried. Glasgow is some 25 miles from Stonehouse and had the main hospital facilities at that time".
