Meredith Collins was born 13 Mar 1789 in Boone's Station, Kentucky and died sometime between the 5 Dec 1850 census and 29 Jul 1860 census. He is believed to be the son of Elisha Collins (b 30 Nov 1759 in Halifax VA; d 28 Sep 1842) and Frances Madison (b abt 1763 in Halifax VA; d abt 1830 in Green Co, Alabama). Francis Madison was a cousin of President Madison.

Meredith Collins married twice; m1 Maria A (last name unknown) and m2 Sidney (Wallace) Gibbs, widow of William S Gibbs.

Boone's Station (or Boone Station) was a settlement in Kentucky and the home of Daniel Boone from 1779 to 1782. It was located on Boone's Creek in Fayette County, Kentucky, near present Athens, Kentucky. Boone moved here during the American Revolutionary War after having previously lived in Boonesborough, Kentucky. The new settlement, initially called "Boone's new station", was located on land settled in 1776 by Daniel's son Israel. At its height, the settlement consisted of about 15 to 20 families. Like other "stations" in frontier Kentucky, Boone's Station probably consisted of a number of cabins which shared a common outside wall in order to defend against American Indian raids. Unlike Boonesborough, Boone's Station saw little action during the war. However, a number of Boone's Station residents were killed in the war at nearby locations. Boone's brother Edward was killed by Shawnees in 1780 while hunting with Daniel in present Bourbon County. Boone's son Israel and his nephew Thomas Boone were killed at the Battle of Blue Licks in 1782.

Sometime between 1810-1820 Meredith Collins m1 Maria A (last name unknown)(per property deed in Greene County, Alabama dated 6-8-1827). She was also believed to have been "Miss Meredith" prior to their marriage. (Another Meredith lived in Floyd County, Kentucky. in 1820 but should not be confused with this Meredith.) By 1827 they had moved to Alabama. Meredith and Maria are believed to have had 6 children, only two of which have been identified by name: Meredith Patterson Collins (1827 – 1903) and John Wallace Collins, a doctor (1835 – 1903). Based on the 1840 census the four other children included: a boy (born 1810-1820), a boy (born 1820-18250, a boy (born 1825-1830), and a girl (born 1825-1830).

One of the other four children was probably David W. Collins (a doctor). He had studied at the University of Louisville and had practiced elsewhere before going to Colorado. He was licensed to practice medicine there on Oct. 4, 1881 and was in Pueblo, Colorado in 1903 when his brother. Dr. John Wallace Collins died.
