Battle of New Orleans, Jan 1815, Tennessee Mtd Gunmen. The father of Susan Penelope Collins HATHORN 1828-1870,m Hugh Doc HATHORN 1818-1900 Lawrence County,Ms. Collins was the grandfather of Lucy Hathorn SAULS 1850-1933, m John Parham SAULS 1844-1917 CSA, and the great grandfather of O.Belle Sauls COTTEN 1879 Lawrence Co.Ms.d.1951 Miami,Fl. He was son of Frances Madison COLLINS, a niece of President James Madison, and soldiered with Gen'l Andrew Jackson. A pioneer resident in Marion County Ms, he operated a tanyard on the creek that now bears his name. He is mentioned in the writings of J.F.H. Claiborne of Natchez in his essay on "A Trip through the Piney Woods". The Mem stone is approximately 2 miles east of Cedar Grove Church Cemetery and Hwy 13, to the north of Cedar Grove Rd, on private Fortenberry property, south of Collins Creek. The stone was placed in 1929 by a Collins heir who was a retired Congressman from Alabama.
