         CELEBRATE GOLDEN WEDDING
                        _____

Mr. and Mrs. Antoine Dechaine, of
         Crow Wing Township Near St.
            Mathias Married 50 Years

Mr. and Mrs. Antoine Dechaine, residing in Crow Wing township near St. Mathias, recently celebrated their golden wedding. They were married 50 years ago at St. Paulo, Quebec, Canada, and Mr. Dechaine was 24 and his blushing bride, Miss Louise Merineau was 22 when they walked up the aisle of the little Catholic church in that quaint French-Canadian town.
Mr. and Mrs. Dechaine came to Crow Wing county 29 years ago and since then have tilled their 160 acre farm near St. Mathias. Nine children were born to them: Joseph Dechaine, Hattie Dechaine, now dead; Mrs. Wm. Gildart, Edward Dechaine, Mrs. Frank Branchaud, Fred Dechaine, Mrs. A. Genin, of South Tacoma, Wash.; Peter Dechaine and Paul Dechaine.
At the time of the Hinkley fire the flames leaped over the stubble field and on to the three barns and the house, destroying everything in their path. It was a severe blow for the family but they worked and saved and built up the house and barns better than ever and now, in their old age, are living in peace, comfort and prosperity. Mr. and Mrs. Antoine Dechaine are blessed with remarkable health and vitality. Neither one uses glasses and they attend Catholic church at St. Mathias and Brainerd with great regularity, having pews in both churches. Mr. Dechaine smokes frequently and always has on hand a large quantity of smoking and chewing tobacco for his boys when they visit him, which they generally do with their families on Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Dechaine is an expert housekeeper and is assisted in her household duties by her daughter-in-law. (Brainerd Daily Dispatch, 20 June 1911, p. 3, c. 4) [Contributed by John Van Essen]
