Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Bentley Funeral Home, Durant. Pallbearers will be Ronald Alpen, Jeff Daufeldt, David Wiese, Tom Daufeldt, Robert Harmsen and Chuck Hermann. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery, Muscatine, Iowa.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Memorial contributions may be made to Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church or Lutheran Homes of Muscatine in her memory.
Louise Magdalena Daufeldt was born January 10, 1915, in Cedar County, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Freese) Daufeldt. She married Paul Gerald Schmelzer on March 10, 1935, in Wilton. He preceded her in death on October 17, 2001. She was a member of Ziegler Memorial Lutheran Church, New Era Iowa, the Durant Senior Citizens, Royal Neighbors of America, Stockton Camp and the Ladies of the Moose, Muscatine. Known as the lawn lady of Pleasant Prairie, she enjoyed doing lawn work, playing cards, music, dancing and baking. Above all, she loved her family and the time she spent with them.
Surviving are one sister, Dorothy Hermann of Muscatine; and 22 nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, Eva Alpen, Grace Harmsen and Cathryn Wiese and two brothers, Harvey Daufeldt and Alvin Daufeldt.
