Eva E. Alpen, 86, of Durant, passed away Friday, October 3, 2003, at Bettendorf Health Care Center.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, October 5, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant. Memorials may be made to the Durant Fire Department and Durant Lioness Park in her memory.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 6, at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant, with Fr. Darin Lovelace officiating. Musical selections provided by accordianist, Lyle Beaver. Pallbearers are Rich Harmsen, Jeff Daufeldt, Tim Daufeldt, Andy Daufeldt, David Wiese and Chuck Hermann. Burial will be in the Durant Cemetery, Durant, Iowa.

Eva Elizabeth Daufeldt was born July 25, 1917, in Cedar County, the daughter of Martin and Emma (Freese) Daufeldt. She married Arnold Elmer Alpen on July 30, 1937, in Davenport. He preceded her in death on June 25, 1991. She was a member of the Durant Senior Citizens. She enjoyed baking, playing cards, the Lyle Beaver band, dancing and polka music. Above all, she loved the time she spent with her family.

Surviving are one son, Ron Alpen of Durant; two sisters, Dorothy Hermann of Muscatine, and Louise Schmelzer of Durant; four grandchildren, Steve (Michele) Alpen, Scott (Deb) Alpen, Dan Alpen and Nicole Alpen; and seven great-grandchildren, Ansley, Abigail, Britta, Morgan, Benjamin, Ryan and Payton.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one daughter, Bonnie Alpen, one grandson, Stan Alpen, two sisters, Grace Harmsen and Cathryn Wiese and two brothers, Harvey Daufeldt and Alvin Daufeldt.
