Beulah R. Hoerr, age 97 of Upper Sandusky died at 3:35 a.m. Sun. Jan. 5, 2014 in the Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky. She was born Oct. 3, 1916 in Pitt Twp., Wyandot Co. being the fifth daughter of the late John Franklin and Mary Alice (Lawrence) Swartz.

She married Nohl V. Newman in 1936 and they divorced in 1944. In 1948 she married Bernard F. "Buck" Hoerr, he preceded her in death in 1975. She is survived by her son Larry B (Nancy) Newman, Sterling, VA, a granddaugher Jennifer E. (Douglas) Hall, Edwardsburg, MI, 3 great grandsons Alex, Andy and Greg Hall, all of Columbus, a brother Paul Swartz, Upper Sandusky and a sister Ruthanna Pieplow, Cleveland. Surviving are 20 nieces and nephews, including Marsha (Jerry) Thomas and Nancy Young both of Upper Sandusky, who were of great assistance to Mrs. Hoerr in her later years. She is preceded in death by a brother and 4 sisters.

In 1934 she graduated from Upper Sandusky High School.

She had been employed at Wyandot Tractor and Implement for over 60 years as a bookkeeper.

Mrs. Hoerr has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ since 1945 where she had been the church secretary, a consistory member and served on every committee, including the kitchen, she was a member of the Heritage and Women's Guild of the church.

Beulah was the first female member of the Upper Sandusky Chamber of Commerce, She volunteered at Wyandot Memorial Hospital, Fairhaven Health Care Community, Upper Sandusky Community Library, South Elementary School and Wyandot County Historical Society. She served on the Wyandot Senior Village Board of Trustees, she had been treasurer for the American Red Cross and was with blood services, Wyandot County Council on Aging Board, Mansfield Area Aging Board, Election Board, had been memorial chair for Wyandot Heart Support Group, then became involved in the American Heart Association, she was member of AARP. Mrs. Hoerr was selected as Upper Sandusky Citizen of the Year in 1992 and in 2003 she was inducted into the Ohio Senior Citizens Hall of Fame.

Along with volunteering she enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, playing cards, winning ribbons at the fair, family reunions and spending time with relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Fri. Jan. 10, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the Trinity United Church of Christ with Rev. Brad McKibben officiating. Burial will be in Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation will be Thurs. Jan. 9, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the Bringman Clark Funeral Home.
