Funeral services for Ray Clinton, 94, of Portales, New Mexico will be held at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel at 10:30 am on December 17, 2013. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene, Texas at 1 pm CST on December 19, 2013 under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary with Ty Duncan and Dee Lancaster officiating. The family will be receiving visitors from 7-8 pm on Monday, December 16 at Wheeler Mortuary in Portales. Honorary Pallbearers will be Mark Lancaster, Paul Lancaster, Shayne Clinton, Chris Clinton, Allen Phillips, Aydon Phillips and family.

Ray was born on February 20, 1919 in Mount Vernon, Texas to William and Ivey Clinton and left us on December 14, 2013 in Portales, New Mexico surrounded by his loving family. Ray married Helen Moses on April 28, 1943 in Ballinger, Texas. They moved to Abilene, Texas in 1945 after Ray was honorably discharged from the Army Air Corps.

Ray was a talented jeweler and watchmaker achieving multiple awards and acknowledgments from leading companies in the industry. He loved the outdoors fishing, camping and spending time with his family. Ray was an accomplished artist using multiple mediums from oil painting to wood carving. His love of life was intoxicating to all those he came in contact with. He always had a smile on his face and words of encouragement for all. Ray was a member of the Church of Christ and served as a deacon and elder at various congregations. Recently he was a member at the Portales Church of Christ. His life was an example of a man who loved the Lord and lived life to the fullest. Ray's love for the Lord will be a lasting example upon his children and grandchildren. Above all he will be remembered as the rock and foundation of our family.

Ray is preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Helen Clinton; his parents; a brother Alton Clinton; and a sister-in-law Lucy Clinton. He is survived by his children Gary Clinton, Don Clinton, and Dana Lancaster; a sister Inez Weddington; seven grandchildren, Andria Phillips, Mark Lancaster, Paul Lancaster, Shayne Clinton, Chris Clinton, Lyndsey Faulkenburg, Katie Clinton, and eleven great grandchildren.
