Antoine was born on Nov. 14, 1812 at Otter Creek, and was baptized in St Anne Catholic Church at Detroit. he was the son Antoine Bernard Lafontaine and Catherine Susor. He married Marie Louisa Montmeny on July 10, 1832 at Monroe, Michigan. They had five children: Augustin, Catherine, Antoine, Marcellus (Marshall), and Marie Emily.
Antoine died on March 19, 1842 and was buried at St Joseph Cemetery, Erie, Michigan
