"VALENTINE. William A. Valentine, who died at his home in Washington Township, Thursday morning, July 13, of throat disease, after ten days of confinement to his room, was in the 69th year of his age. Born in Circleville Township October 21, 1842, the son of Israel and Caroline Stout Valentine. He came to manhood on his father's farm, and after his marriage to Miss Maria Lutz on the 23d of September, 1869, he began farming in Washington Township, where he since resided. The deceased was the father of eight children, who with their mother survive, viz: Mrs. W. H. Leist, Jr., South Washington Street, city; Mrs. Harvey M. Markwood, of Lancaster; Mrs. W. H. Crabill, of Washington Township; Miss Jennie Valentine, at home; Miss Nellie, W. E., and C. D. Valentine, of Circleville Township, and Samuel C. Valentine, at home. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, also four brothers: James Valentine, of Circleville; Emanuel Valentine, of Washington Township; Edward Valentine, of Circleville Township; Israel Valentine, of city of Circleville; and one sister, Miss Elizabeth Valentine, of this city. The deceased was an earnest and faithful member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Circleville, and was an exemplary citizen highly respected in the community. Funeral services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, 15th, at 2 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. G. J. Troutman."

"W. A. Valentine Dead. W. A. Valentine, a well known farmer of Washington Township, died suddenly Thursday morning, at 5 o'clock at his home near the Devil's backbone, of heart trouble resulting from tuberculosis of the throat. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Israel Valentine, and was 68 years old. He married Miss Maria Lutz, who with eight children survive. The children are: Lutz, William, Samuel and Clifford Valentine, Mrs. W. H. Leist, of this city; Mrs. Harvey Markwood, of Lancaster; Mrs. Walter Crabbe(sic), of Washington Township and Miss Jennie Valentine at home. Of his immediate family there are living one sister, Miss Lizzie Valentine, and four brothers, Israel Valentine, of this city; James Valentine, of Ashville; Emanuel Valentine, of Washington Township and Edward Valentine, of Circleville Township. Mr. Valentine was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. The funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Lutheran Church, Rev. G. J. Troutman officiating. A short service was previously held at the home. A quartet, Mrs. M. B. Trout, Miss Hazel Miller, H. W. Plum and E. S. Neuding, sang, 'Abide With Me' at the home service and 'There is a Land of Pure Delight' and 'Asleep in Jesus,' at the church service. 'Nearer My God to Thee' was sung at the graveside."
