McCLARAN, OPAL (THOMPSON) Opal (Thompson) McClaran was born and raised on a farm in Colorado, one of twelve brothers and sisters. She moved to San Diego in 1940, and became a founding member of the Calvary Baptist Church of National City. She raised three children, Mary Jo, Charles, and Kevin, as well as cared for over sixty foster children. Together, she and her husband, Hollis "Mac", sold appliances to builders and contractors in the San Diego area for over 35 years. She enjoyed square dancing with the Valley Twirlers of El Cajon and was a devoted member of the Jericho Road Baptist Church of La Mesa. She is survived by her husband, Hollis McClaran, El Cajon, Calif.; son, Kevin McClaran, Calif.; sisters, Lois Jack (Dale) McCuen, Nina Wimber, and brothers, Harold (Grace) Scofield, Oren Scofield, and Everrett (Janice) Scofield, all of Colorado; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Oren and Leland Scofield, Colo.; daughter, Mary Jo Brandon, Colo.; son, Charles Thompson, Calif., sisters, Mavis Scofield, Mary Etta Swallow, Mabel Brandt, Pearl Carter, Marguerite Swallow, and brother, Harrison Scofield, all of Colorado. Visitation on Monday, August 27th, 4 to 7 p.m. at El Cajon Mortuary, 684 S. Mollison Ave., El Cajon, CA 92020. Funeral on Tuesday, August 28th, 10 a.m. at Jericho Road Baptist Church, 9407 Jericho Road, La Mesa, CA 91942. At 12 p.m. burial service will be at Singing Hills Cemetery, 2800 Dehesa Road, El Cajon 92019. Following, the family welcomes friends to a luncheon at the church in honor of Opal's memory.
