A Young Wife Taken

An unexpected death of the past
week was that of Mrs. Herman
Schultz who passed away at an
early hour Monday morning from
complication of diseases, which proved
to have symptoms of diphtheria
necessitating quarantining the home
and holding a private funeral
Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Scbultz had been ill for
several days with what was thought
be pneumonia, but a culture
was finally sent to Iowa City
to ascertain if possibly other
germs could be found. A message
received from the health department
Tuesday afternoon declared that it
contained evidence of diphtheria.
After the receipt of this news
arrangements for a funeral at St.
John's church yesterday morning
were foregone, and Rev. H. Meyer
Conducted a service on the lawn of
the home yesterday morning, after
which the remains were interred in
Union cemetery.
Wilhelmina Katharina Margaretha
Bernhard was born near Pomeroy
on the 23rd of September, 1881,
hence was 28 years. 11 months and
19 days of age at the time of her
death. She was married to Herman
Schultz, October 22, 1902. To them
one son was born, and he survives
the mother.
The circumstances attending her
early demise is sad indeed. A young
wife and mother has been taken from
her home without warning. Her
condition was not considered critical
when Mr. Schultz's mother went to
Newell Saturday to attend the mission
festival, yet before the appointed
time for her return she was called
home by the death of her son's wife.
The young people lived on the Dalton
place which they purchased three
years ago.
There are many friends who have been
surprised at her sudden taking away
and who extend heartfelt sympathy
to the bereaved family.
