John Henry Barnhardt, son of John and Lena (Lange) Barnhardt, was born August 12, 1891 near Pomeroy, Iowa. John moved to a farm near Pocahontas at an early age, and was educated in rural schools. He was baptized and confirmed at Evangelical Church at Pomeroy.
John married Emma Blohm September 20, 1916, at St. John's Lutheran Church near Albert City, Iowa. They made their home on the same farm that John and Lena Barnhardt moved to when John was seven months old. Emma entered the Pocahontas Manor November 10, 1980, and John entered the Pocahontas Manor July 9, 1985.
Surviving are his wife, Emma, children, Mildred of Pocahontas, Lucille of Corwith, Doris of Pocahontas, Harold, Fonda and Melvin of Pocahontas. Seventeen grandchildren, and twenty eight great grandchildren. John was preceded in death by two brothers and six sisters.
Funeral service was held at United Church of Christ in Pomeroy Iowa.
