Catharina Freeze was born February 26, 1774, in Woodsboro, Frederick County, Maryland, the 7th child of Michael and Catharina Nied Freeze. She was likewise the granddaughter of Johann Michael & Maria Charlotta Fechter Friess, immigrants from Rossbach, Germany, in 1738. Her parents settled in Frederick County, Maryland, just around the time of her birth. She was baptized on May 22, 1774, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Woodsboro; sponsors were Johannes Blumenshein & Maria. Circa 1795, Catharina married Jacob Sowers, possibly the son of John & Sophia Sowers. They were the parents of 4 known children: Eli, Frederick, Margaret Sarah and Maria Sowers (who died before reaching adulthood). From her 3 surviving children, there are many descendants still today. Catharina passed away in 1808, in Woodsboro, after which Jacob and the surviving children migrated to Canton, Stark County, Ohio. It is unknown where Catharina is buried, but most likely in Woodsboro, with no surviving stone.
