Clyde Strother* Bloxton, 87 years, 7 months, 4 days, of Kennewick, Washington, died Monday, March 27, 2000, in Life Care Center of Kennewick. He was born in Falls Church, Fairfax County, VA, and lived in the Tri-Cities since 1943. He was a retired reactor operator at Hanford. Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, Kennewick, was in charge of arrangements.

[NOTE: As a Witness to his brother's wedding on June 10, 1939, his name was entered as "Clyde R. Bloxton", and his 1940 WWII Registration Card was "Clyde Russell Bloxton" NOT "Strother" and signed "C.R. Bloxton". On his WWII card at 1804 Evanston, Jackson, MO, he entered "age 32" and his birth year as 1908, NOT 1912, too.] His birthplace had been erased and "Maryfield" written in. He was self-employed at 40 Highway & Sniabar Rd (we know he owned a gas station in MO, so that must have been the location). He was 6' 5-1/2" tall, 185 lbs., Brown hair, Blue eyes, Ruddy complexion, scar behind each ear.] Comparing all his documents, especially his delayed birth certificate with info provided by his father, and his death certificate documents, it appears that "Strother" is his legal middle name; strong evidence for 1912, not 1908, being his birthdate, and I'm going with "Falls Church (District), Fairfax County" on his birth certificate vs. Merrifield, VA from his WWII card.

Survived by one son, Clyde ("Monty" before his dad passed away, but "Clyde" afterwards); one granddaughter, Chantel.

Clyde Strother Bloxton was born on Friday, August 23, 1912, Falls Church District, Fairfax County, VA. His mother died when he was nine months old, and as of January 8, 1920, he was living with his father and older siblings in their own home on Little Falls Street in Falls Church, VA:

He spent some of his childhood living with various relatives, etc. or in an orphanage--specifically:
Lived at various times with:
His sister, Georgia Belle Bloxton Stanford
His brother, Alexander Moncure "Alex" Bloxton
His father's sisters,
Aunt Hattie.... also Aunt Lucy for 3 months
Saint John's Orphanage, Washington, D.C.
In the hospital for mastoid treatment
Industrial School
In Foster Homes:
(last one being Fred Forrest (Rose L. Calvert) MaGruder at 3608 Perry St, Mt Rainier, Maryland (6 BR built 1901), where he was living in Sept 1931 when he met his wife, Gene, and he lived until married 12-31-31.

On April 5, 1930, Clyde was living in Albert & Josie Britt's Boarding House with them, their 9-year-old granddaughter, and eight other boarders at 1101-24th St., Washington, D.C. He wouldn't be 18 for four more months, but he is listed as age 22, and working as a laborer at a Dairy, so he may have been their Foster child instead of a boarder. There was one other roomer, age 18, and another roomer, age 27, was a Driver for a Dairy (so they might have "carpooled" to work).

Clyde married Genevieve Lee Ervin on December 31, 1931, Rockville, Montgomery County, MD. They were married for 64 years before she predeceased him. "Gene" was born on Saturday, 24 Sep 1910, Nevada, Vernon County, MO. She died at age 84 years, 10 months, 18 days, on Friday, 11 Aug 1995, Kennewick, Benton County, WA.

Their only child, Clyde Moncure Bloxton, born 1 Jul 1939 Kansas City, MO.

They moved to Washington State because of his getting the Government job with DOE (U.S. Dept of Energy) at Hanford (Expansive 586-square-mile former nuclear production site that is now open for tours); he lived in Hanford's barracks before sending for Gene and their son. He retired as a reactor operator at Hanford.
