Mabel Susan Chaffee, 100, of Mt. Pleasant passed away on Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at the Prestige Centre.
Cremation has taken place.A gathering of friends and loved ones for Mabel will be held at Clark Family Funeral Chapel on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 1-3pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice or the Isabella County Commission on Aging. Envelopes will be available at the funeral chapel.
Mabel was born on February 16, 1912 in Sherman Township, the daughter of John J. and Carrie Kent Sheldon. As one of ten children, Mabel worked hard and was very proud to graduate from Weidman High School in 1930. She married Bert Chaffee in Mt. Pleasant on May 14, 1932. They raised their only daughter, Jeanne, in Grand Rapids and lived there until Bert retired. In 1977 he preceded her in death. Mabel was a homemaker and a loving sister, mother and grandmother. She loved writing poetry, visiting with people, exercising and helping others.
Mabel is survived by her grandchildren, Robyn (William) Battles of Hoosick Falls, NY and Michelle (Benjamin) Donehoo of Lawrenceville, GA; great-grandchildren LB and Michael Donehoo, and her youngest sister Doris Ter Bush of Weidman.
Mabel was preceded in death by her husband, Bert; daughter, Jeanne, and her siblings Wilbur Sheldon, John Sheldon, Laura Latham, Rozena Leiter, Oren Sheldon, Millie Voss, Minnie Flaugher and Alma Farnsworth.
