Mrs. Catherine Mikels, wife of George Mikels, died at 7:10 o'clock Friday morning at the family home, eight miles north of Lafayette on State Road 43. She had been ill since February and death was due to dropsy and heart trouble.

The deceased was born near Romney, May 18, 1863, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Crouch, and had lived in this general vicinity all her life. She was married March 26, 1885, to Mr. Mikels.

Surviving are seven children: William, Albert and Roy, at home, Frank, of Sacramento, Cal., Robert, of near Battle Ground, Charles, of Lafayette, and Mrs. Laura Schnepp, of Americus, with two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Little, of Benton Harbor, Mich., and Mrs. Doll Dice, of Iowa.

The funeral will be held at the residence, probably Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, with interment in Liberty Chapel cemetery.

Journal & Courier (Lafayette, Indiana) May 7, 1932, Page 3

The obituary states she was born near Romney. That is incorrect. Her Death Certificate and several census states she was born in Iowa.
