The Holden Progress Dec 2, 1920 Amanda Jane Paul 1856-1920 The funeral of Mrs. Perry Paul was held on Wednesday afternoon at the home. Rev. Thornhill having charge of the service. The pallbearers were deacons of the Baptist church, in which she had been an active worker for over a third of a century. Amanda Jane Paul was born in Illinois, October 4, 1856. In her childhood she came to Missouri, the family settling in Holden which was her home until the end. September 22, 1877, she was married to J.P. Paul, who survives her. To them were born eight children, one, Baby Ruth, dying March 30, 1902 at the age of four. The living children are: Clyde L. Paul, Philadelphia: Mrs. Fred Hill, Baxter Springs, Kan; Ralph, of Holden: Merl, of Des Moines, Iowa: Mrs. Fred Caldwell and Mrs. Warren Dunham of Holden; and Mrs. G.T. Roach of Baxter Springs, Kans. Deceased also leaves one sister, Mrs. James Roberts, and one brother, Wm Lane, both of Holden. On September 8, she was taken to Kansas City for an operation, returning home in two weeks. The operation proved more serious that at first thought and in the latter part of October she took to her bed. A long hard fight was made but at the end of four weeks the tired frame gave up the struggle and her soul was at rest. For 35 years she had been more than a member of the Baptist church of Holden; the best efforts of her life were given to the various activities of the church, and her work in her Master’s vineyard brought forth good fruit. Her passing leaves a void in the church as well as the family circle. Truly she won the reward of the faithful servant of the Lord. (w/o James Perry Paul)
