Howard was an Erwin, TN native but had lived in Jonesborough since 1977, he was a son of Mack Burnie and Lola Day Ayers.
Mr. Ayers was a retired crane operator with the Clinchfield Railroad after 20 years of service.
He was preceded in death by one son, one brother and a sister. Survivors include his wife Betty Crabtree Ayers; two sons, Danny Ayers and Timothy Ayers of Erwin; two daughters Sharron Ayers and Connie Bennett; three sisters, Pauline Gouge, Ellen Shell and Bertha Padgett of Erwin. *Source- Johnson City Press, Nov. 13, 1992, Page 2
