He was a native of Unicoi County and had lived in the area all his life. He was a son of Howard and Betty Ayers of Jonesborough.
Mr. Ayers attended Rock Creek Presbyterian Church and was a graduate of David Crockett High School.
Survivors include two brothers, Danny Ayers of the Rock Creek community and Timothy Ayers of Johnson City; two sisters, Sharron Ayers, Johnson City and Connie Bennett of Erwin; his paternal grandmother, Lola Ayers of Erwin and maternal grandmother, Eltie Adams of Gate City, Virginia. *Source- Johnson City Press, Nov. 19, 1985, Page 2
